Trader Joes

June 29th, 2007 at 09:21 pm

I went into Trader Joes today to buy food for a lunch barbecue we're having with friends tomorrow. I went in with the intension of only spending $50 and only grabbed a hand basket so as not to spend too much. I went over by $25. I spent $75 total. At that I still forgot to get Avocados and lemons. I did tell my friend to bring avocados which will cost me nothing!

Trader Joe's is a seductively evil store...I try to stay away because I have the same problem, I have never once stayed on my budget there...hmmm thinking of all the lovely things they carry, must not stop at TJs on the way home...

I'm a Trader Joe's junkie too...though I come out spending a whole lot less there than I would if I went into Whole Paycheck, ahem, I mean, Whole Foods.

Love TJs, but I must have a list when I go.

Have you considered going to an all cash/envelope spending system? It seems that impulse purchases are a problem. If you had budgeted $50 for the trip and only had $50 cash in your pocket, you couldn't have spent $75 or even $51. Same for that CVS trip. If you knew you were going in to pick up photos that were $13 and only had that much with you, you could have said no to the hula hoops because you would have had no money with you to pay for them.
